In 2022 we changed how we manage and deliver Junior Basketball within the Region. Our Staff, board and key community members wanted a better way.  This led to a change in various systems and structural changes that aligns more with our development philosophy. 

 

We moved away from the traditional "representative" model for this age group. Rather than a model of selecting the best and deselecting the rest, we are operating under the development philosophy of "as many as possible for as long as possible".

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Our coaching pillars; Growth mindset, Coaching a person who plays basketball, Coaching for development, being an active member of the community. Our approach to development is ‘as many as possible for as long as possible’.

METHODOLOGY

We ask ourselves if there is a better way of seeking constant improvement into how we coach. We believe you get better at basketball by playing basketball, this is why we use the constraints led approach which is an evidence based approach to coaching.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT​

​FIRST EXPERIENCE

​The Franklin Basketball Junior Development Program offers young players their first experience of inter-association basketball.

​

DEVELOPMENT FOCUS

At U12 and U14, the focus is on skill development, confidence and enjoyment of the game rather than being solely defined by results, with the goal of “as many as possible for as long as possible”.

​

INCLUSIVE PATHWAY FOR YOUTH

​While the program is structured and presented like a representative pathway, we aim to distribute players across teams to ensure they have a chance to compete at a suitable level. This approach prioritises capability and opportunity rather than being result-focused, helping more young players stay involved in the game and continue developing over time.
