FBA Under 12 Junior
Development Program

In 2022, FBA moved away from the traditional "representative" model for this age group. Rather than a model of selecting the best and deselecting the rest, we are operating under the development philosophy of "as many as possible for as long as possible". This will help provide a sustainable pathway for all involved.

There is no deselection for the U12 age groups which means registrations are open to anyone within the U12 age groups, who is affiliated to an FBA Club.

What does ‘no deselection process’ for this age group mean?

Rather than a traditional trial process where 60 players are evaluated and selected to play for 1-2 teams, leading to the de-selection “cutting” 40+ players, FBA as an organisation has decided to adopt the philosophy of "as many as possible for as long as possible". FBA acknowledges that the development process is non-linear and in particular, with these junior age groups, players grow and develop at vastly different rates/stages.

In order to allow all players to have a fair chance to grow and develop within the sport they love we have adapted this program over the last 3 years to provide the best development situation possible. This is why players who wish to be involved, will participate in a series of “muster” sessions and be placed into teams best suited to their current stage of development.

PROGRAM NON-NEGOTIABLES

RESPECT

This is the first thing you give - to players, coaches, and others. Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels welcome. Mutual respect is expected from all participants.

ATTITUDE & EFFORT

Control the controllables. We embrace mistakes as part of learning and the development journey. Struggle is part of the growth process and it's completely normal. Our expectation is that players approach this struggle with the attitude of ‘YET’ [The growth mindset approach of I can’t do something YET vs a fixed mindset of I can't do something and won’t be able to] and put in the maximum level of effort they can at any given time. Lack of effort/bad attitudes will not be tolerated.

COMMITMENT

The best ability is availability. Players are expected to be available for all team commitments [training, game days, tournaments etc]. We understand that there can be reasonable excuses for being unavailable, [life happens] however failure to communicate ahead of time or simply not showing isn’t acceptable.

Franklin Basketball invests a significant amount of time & resource into this program in attempts to make it the best development situation possible without a costly price tag.

All members (players coaches, managers and caregivers) who sign up to this program acknowledge and comply to these non-negotiables
